In Hulls I explore the organic curves and volumes of boat hulls and translate them into furniture objects through the application of legs and horizontal flat surfaces. These studies of the hull form have allowed me to execute the work using craft based processes without feeling tied to the traditional furniture form. In this series I utilize traditional furniture making techniques like hand shaping and joinery. I then combine them with sculptural hull shapes to transform the work into furniture objects. While working from within this language of craft, I create objects that are neither clearly functional nor clearly sculptural.
